The WSU News team will be taking a break to observe the July 4 holiday along with the rest of the university community. Fresh posting to WSU Insider returns on Monday.

If you’re looking for some good, Americana reading this weekend, consider this article from the Summer 2024 issue of Washington State Magazine about WSU alum Capt. Donald Harvey Froemke (’38 Forestry), who was killed in the Netherlands during World War II while taking part in an Allied military operation aiming to liberate Holland and create an invasion route into northern Germany.

In August 2022, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency identified Froemke’s actual remains in Holland. The captain was finally laid to rest Sept. 9, 2023, in Yakima’s Tahoma Cemetery, following a graveside service.
