A Washington State University student was taken into custody after officers with the WSU Police Department responded to a report of a person with a knife inside the Global Scholars residence hall on the Pullman campus. A shot reportedly was fired by police during the encounter but no one was struck by the bullet.

Per protocol, the officer involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave and an independent investigation of the incident will be conducted.
