Visitors to the Washington State University Pullman campus will see some alternative routes beginning Monday, April 1.
According to Welch Comer Engineers, the $11.7 million Project Downtown Pullman includes replacement of sub-surface sewer, water and stormwater lines, as well as new sidewalks, curbs, and landscaping.
The project will cover the five blocks of Main Street between Spring Street and Grand Avenue.
Businesses will remain open during construction, and ADA-compliant pedestrian access will be provided to business doors for customers. Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic during construction and Paradise Street to the south will be converted to a temporary two-way street. Public parking lots in the area will remain available and transit service to the downtown district will run on the regular schedule. Finally, Bishop Boulevard will serve as a temporary truck route for freight deliveries through the community.

WSU units should consider including messaging about Project Downtown Pullman and detours when major events are expected to bring traffic to the region and when inviting people to the WSU Pullman campus between April and October.
