Applications for the next Richard G. Law Excellence Award for Undergraduate Teaching will be accepted through Tuesday, March 19.

Presented since 2013, the Law award recognizes outstanding teaching by instructors of record — lecturers, career-track, and tenure-track faculty — on all Washington State University campuses who lead courses in the University Common Requirements (UCORE) general education curriculum.

“The Law award is a WSU tradition, and it recognizes UCORE educators for their unique and exceptional efforts to deliver top academic experiences for WSU students,” said Ashley Boyd, UCORE director.

Thirteen faculty have so far received the Law award, said Karen Weathermon, member of the award selection committee. Those recipients are described as educators who inspire curiosity and understanding in an area of study. Through their teaching, they encourage development of the lifelong learning skills of integrating concepts to solve real problems.

The award is named in honor of WSU administrator and faculty member Richard “Dick” Law, who served as the director of general education from 1990 until his retirement in 2009.

Applicants for the next Law award must have taught at least one UCORE class in each of the past three years. Other requirements and detailed information about the award and the online application process is available on the Law award web page.

Following reviews by the committee, the new recipient will be honored at the awards event for Academic Excellence and Student Achievement on April 26.

Questions about the Law award or online nomination process should be emailed to DAESA.provost@wsu.edu. All application materials, including letters of recommendation, are due by the March 19 deadline.
