Washington State University Everett, with support from Snohomish STEM, will host one of its key educational programs, “Girls Explore STEM,” from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4.

The initiative, dedicated to students in grades 6 through 12 who identify as female, is part of WSU Everett’s commitment to breaking conventional boundaries in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

This initiative helps prepare young women, particularly those of underrepresented groups, to pursue an education and eventually a career in STEM fields by providing access to the robust and supportive learning community at WSU Everett.

“Each year, the growing number of participants, already more than doubled from last year, reflects more than just interest — it reinforces the demand for programs that nurture today’s students for tomorrow’s jobs,” said Paul Pitre, chancellor at WSU Everett. “Our program is a crucial platform to engage emerging talent and help young women envision themselves as essential to the future of STEM industries.”

The event offers participants an immersive and diverse STEM experience with interactive, hands-on workshops that guide students in understanding the real-world applications and opportunities a STEM education can unlock. Sessions are led by an expert team of STEM Ambassadors, comprised of WSU Everett faculty, alums, and professionals from the surrounding community.

Parents and caregivers are also invited to participate in a comprehensive resource fair designed to equip them with the tools to support their daughters’ educational ambitions in STEM fields.

“We recognize the pivotal role parents play in nurturing their children’s education,” said Alex Tadio, director of admissions for WSU Everett. “It’s a collaborative effort, where familial support aligned with girls’ aspirations can truly shape their educational and professional trajectories.”

“Girls Explore STEM” at WSU Everett is part of the campus’s mission to foster diversity and inclusion within the global STEM community. It underscores the belief that investing in today’s young minds is the best way to shape tomorrow’s leaders.
