Thirty-five faculty members were granted tenure this year across the WSU system, and dozens more received promotions, according to the Office of the Provost.
Tenure and promotion recognize scholars who are leaders in their fields. Promotions were awarded to faculty in both tenure-track and career-track positions.
Three faculty—Joy Egbert, Patricia Hunt, and Yong Wang—were promoted to the rank of Regents Professor. This honor is reserved for faculty who have attained the highest level of professional achievement.
Professor Egbert is a visionary researcher, award-winning teacher, and international leader in the field of computer-assisted language learning. Professor Hunt is recognized worldwide for her discovery of the toxic effects of Bisphenol A, a chemical used to make plastics. Professor Wang is internationally recognized for his leadership in the development of novel catalytic materials and reaction engineering.
All newly tenured and promoted faculty will be honored at the Celebrating Excellence Banquet, an invitation-only event slated for Friday, March 25. The banquet is part of Showcase, the university’s weeklong celebration of academic excellence.
A complete list of the newly tenured and promoted faculty members can be found on the Showcase website.
