Washington State University President Kirk Schulz announced the university’s Pullman campus will continue to use distance learning methods for the duration of the spring semester in a Friday letter to the WSU community.

The decision is following guidance provided by Washington Governor Jay Inslee on Thursday. WSU had previously left open the possibility of a return to face-to-face teaching in Pullman at some point during the spring 2020 semester.

The WSU Pullman campus will remain open during this period and residential, dining and healthcare facilities will continue to operate. This decision only impacts WSU Pullman at this time.

The University’s other four campuses may still return to in-person teaching prior to the end of the semester, depending on local needs and approval by local public health officials.

In addition, WSU Pullman has canceled its annual Mom’s Weekend festivities, which had been scheduled for early April.

In a separate message this morning, Beasley Coliseum announced that the April 4 concert by Macklemore also is canceled. Negotiations are underway with Macklemore to reschedule the concert for a later date. Tickets purchased for the April 4 performance will be honored if the concert is rescheduled. WSU will announce the process for refunds after a new date for the concert is determined.

The cancellation of Mom’s Weekend festivities and the Macklemore concert were made in accordance with guidance from state health officials to limit large gatherings in light of the growing COVID-19 pandemic.

A decision regarding WSU Pullman’s May 9 Commencement exercises will be made closer to the event date.

Please continue to monitor the COVID-19 website for important updates impacting the WSU community.
