Three months from now, curious crowds will stroll through the Compton Union Building Senior Ballroom, window-shopping for knowledge. On display will be discoveries and creative work of hundreds of WSU scholars.
The event is Academic Showcase, a poster session for WSU faculty, staff, and graduate and professional students from all WSU campuses. To share a poster of your scholarly achievements, apply now—before the Jan. 15 deadline.
“I encourage scholars across the University to join us for Academic Showcase,” said Vice Provost Laura Griner Hill, who co-chairs the Showcase Steering Committee. “It’s a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas with colleagues.”
This opportunity is offered only once a year. The 2020 poster session will take place on Thursday, March 26, at WSU Pullman.
By Jan. 15, every aspiring participant must submit a short (250 words or less) abstract of the work they plan to present.
The abstract should summarize original work recently completed at WSU. Because a wide cross-section of the community attends Academic Showcase, abstracts should be written using language that an educated lay audience would understand.
“Draft and submit your abstract before winter break,” advised Rebecca Van de Vord, assistant vice president of Academic Outreach and Innovation, who co-chairs the Showcase Steering Committee with Hill. “It may be easier to find time before the demands of spring semester begin.”
Academic Showcase runs concurrently with the Graduate and Professional Students Association (GPSA) Research Exposition, a combination poster session and scholarship competition for graduate and professional students from the WSU Pullman campus. Participants vie for $9,600 in awards.
The two events are part of a weeklong program known simply as Showcase, which honors scholarly achievements of the university community. Packed with poster sessions, competitions, and speeches, Showcase week culminates in a banquet, where WSU pays tribute to the outstanding work of faculty and staff.
