The WSU Cougar specialty license plate continues to set records.

As of March 1, 23,869 crimson Cougar plates were on the road in Washington.

“It’s growing very quickly,” said Mark Wilcomb, the director of finance and operations at the WSU Alumni Association. “Our plates are the No. 1 selling plate in Washington state.”

For every plate sold, $28 goes into a scholarship fund for WSU students. The association raised $615,000 for scholarships in 2017, he said.

And because the $28 is going into a scholarship fund, it counts as a donation and allows the purchaser to include a $28 deductible on their taxes, Wilcomb said.

The plates are only available to Washington residents because of the different plate rules in each state, Wilcomb said. However, he said he has seen the plates all over the country, showing just how far WSU alums may go beyond Washington.

“Cougs travel,” he said, “ and our plates go with them.”

More information about the crimson Cougar license plates and the scholarship fund can be found on the Alumni Association’s website.
