Registration open for science communications conference

Registration is now open for Science Talk, a science communication conference with a focus on increasing science’s impact in society through better communication. The conference will be Thursday, March 1 and Friday, March 2 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.

“Science is everywhere, in policy and in the media. We think it’s vital that scientists are armed with the best techniques and tools to explain their work clearly and concisely,” said Allison Coffin, assistant professor of neuroscience at WSU Vancouver and executive board chair for Science Talk. “At Science Talk, we bring all disciplines and professions together and give them the toolbox they need.”

The conference will include panel discussions on hot topic issues in science communication, workshops covering the tools of the trade, and a poster session.

Conference keynote speakers are:

  • Michael Lemonick, Scientific American editor
  • Keri Kukral, Raw Science TV founder
  • Phil Plait, the Bad Astronomer

The early bird registration rate is $250 for professionals and $75 for students and trainees. Rates will go up on Thursday, February 1. Science Talk is sponsored by Washington State University Vancouver, Oregon Health & Science University, Broader Impacts Productions, and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund.
