PULLMAN – WSU has contracted with Elluminate to provide universitywide access to its Web-conferencing technology at no cost to individual units.
Elluminate Learning Suite (see elluminate.com) is available for faculty to use for spring semester.
Elluminate integrates with Angel, the university’s learning management system, and can be used as a teaching companion piece. A single click gains users access to the Elluminate virtual classroom from within Angel.
As a desktop virtual meeting and collaboration tool, Elluminate provides video, audio, Web and application sharing for faculty interested in providing courses in a real-time, online, interactive, virtual-classroom environment.
”Elluminate is a very viable method to deliver and receive content,” said Cheryl Dhein, small animal internist and head of instructional technology at the College of Veterinary Medicine. She participated in preliminary testing of Elluminate with a course in the College of Veterinary Medicine in the fall.
The quality of audio and images is very good and is comparable to other products the college has used, she said. She envisions Elluminate being used for guest lecturers and presentations, graduate committee meetings and Web conference meetings.
Faculty wishing to learn more about Elluminate and how they might incorporate it in their courses can visit webconf.wsu.edu or contact Charmaine Wellington, academic media training coordinator/faculty consultant for Academic Media Services, at 335-6524 or cwellington@wsu.edu. Elluminate demonstrations can be viewed at elluminate.com/demo.
Faculty members comfortable learning on their own can sign up for Elluminate training through the online training sessions available at elluminate.com/support/training. It is generally recommended that anyone wishing to utilize Elluminate take the “Elluminate Live! Participants Training” course. Faculty and staff wishing to manage their own virtual rooms should take the two “Moderator” courses.
Equipment requirements can be found at support.elluminate.com. To enjoy the full functionality of Elluminate, it is recommended that faculty use a headset with microphone, or speakers and an echo-cancelling microphone. To transmit video, users may wish to use a desktop camera.
