Gender differences and suggestions for effectively working with male and female colleagues are the topics of a workshop noon-2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, in Smith CUE 518. Lunch will be provided.
“She Said, He Said: Overcoming Gender Acculturation in the Workplace” is a mentoring workshop for tenure- and clinical-track women faculty and administrators.
The interactive workshop is sponsored by the WSU Association for Faculty Women. RSVP by Friday, Jan. 15, to Rebecca Craft, craft@wsu.edu or 335-5040. Attendance will be limited to the first 25 respondents.
The workshop will explore gender differences to help participants understand, for example:
* Why some male leaders don’t seek input before making decisions.
* Why your view was not taken seriously, whereas the same view expressed by a male colleague was readily acknowledged.
* Why female colleagues do not always support your advancement.
* Why male colleagues attack your ideas in a meeting but then tell you “don’t take it so personally” on the way out.
* How male colleagues can attack each other in meetings, yet be golfing buddies on the weekend.
