Dad’s Weekend offers events for families, fans

 
PULLMAN – Several activities are being planned for Dad’s Weekend as the Cougars prepare to face UCLA on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Martin Stadium. Tickets are available through the WSU Athletic Ticket Office.
 
Weekend events include:
 

Friday
  • Pacific Islanders Club’s Annual Cultural Exhibition Lu’au from 5:30 to 9 p.m. in the CUB Senior Ballroom. The event includes a buffet-style dinner. Music, dance and cultural displays will revolve around the theme, “Heartbeat of the Islands.” Prices are $20 for individual tickets or $18 when more than two tickets are purchased.
  • WSU men’s basketball team will play Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m. at Friel Court in their second game of the season. Tickets are available through the WSU Athletic Ticket Office.

    Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections will present “Win the Victory: WSU Football History and Digital Films Exhibit” from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Terrell Library atrium floor. The display includes WSU football history films, photos and artifacts from the first game in 1894 up through 1931’s Rose Bowl.

  • The WSU School of Music presents Vocal Extravaganza at 7 p.m. in the Bryan Hall Theatre. The concert will include showcases of Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, University Singers, Opera Workshop and VoJazz. Tickets will be available at the door on the evening of the performance at 5 p.m. and in the lobby of Kimbrough Hall on the preceding Tuesday, Thursday and the day of the performance from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information visit the School of Music’s calendar at https://libarts.wsu.edu/music/calendar/#November.
  • Brewfest’s two wine-tasting sessions will take place 5-7 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Events Center. The wine-tasting sessions are organized by members of Sigma Iota, a student –run association in the School of Hospitality and Business Management. Along with a selection of beers from the Northwest, there will be hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction. Tickets are $35 and are available at www.brewfest.wsu.edu.
  • Feast of the Arts will take present music and reception at 6 p.m. at the Museum of Art and followed by dinner at Todd Hall Dining Room 268. The event features music, art reception and dinner, including premium, award-winning wines from across Washington State and hors d’oeuvres. The event is already sold out.
  • Conner Museum is hosting a special exhibit entitled, “Cougs in the Conner Museum: Prowl Our Big Cats.” They’ll have furry pelts and heads along with skulls and teeth of mountain lions and other large, predatory felines. The exhibit is free and will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
  • WSU Museum of Art will also open its doors 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday to showcase “This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land; Photography by Don Normark; Issues of Eminent Domain.” The display consists of a series of photographs taken in 1948 by Don Normark in Chavez Ravine, a striking area of Mexican-American neighborhoods less than two miles from Los Angeles City Hall.
 

Saturday
  • Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham’s will perform at 8:30 p.m. in Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. This stand-up comic has built a national reputation with his collection of 3-foot puppets that specialize in politically incorrect and raunchy observations. Dunham’s pals include the crotchety retiree Walter; Achmed the Dead Terrorist, the backwoods Bubba J; the talking chili pepper Jose Jalapeño, and the purple-faced Peanut. Tickets are available online at www.ticketswest.com and by phone at 1-800-325-SEAT. Tickets cost $54, with a $5 discount for WSU staff, faculty and students.
  • WSU student group, Ku-Ah-Mah, will be holding a Native American Round Dance from 6-10 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Gladish Community Center View Room. There will be frybread and stew for participants. This event is open and free to the public. For more information, visit https://kuahmah.wsu.edu.
