Cougar basketball starts with Midnight Mayhem

PULLMAN – The 2009 season for WSU men’s and women’s basketball will kick off tonight with the annual Midnight Mayhem festivities. The Cougs will hold their first official practice in Bohler Gym, following the “Free Friday” WSU vs. USC volleyball game.

The 14-3 Cougar volleyball team will take on No. 16 USC. The match will begin at 7 p.m.

At the conclusion of the match, everyone in attendance is invited to eat pizza in the PEB Gym while Bohler is set up for a night of mayhem. Students will also be able to sign up for ZZU Cru.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. (or 30 minutes after the end of the volleyball match), the WSU men’s head coach Ken Bone and women’s head coach June Daugherty will begin the event with team introductions. Both teams will open the on-court games with a 3-point contest. The men and women will compete in pairs for the title of best long-range shooter. Then a handful of the high-flying Cougar men will wow the crowd in a slam dunk contest.

After the individual contest winners are crowned, the men’s team will put their talents on display in a 15-minute scrimmage.

Prizes will be on offer all night with drawings and contests for audience members. Two lucky fans will walk away with an iPod shuffle. Everyone will be able to pick up a team poster and autographs.

Anybody who is unable to attend Midnight Mayhem will be able to watch the event live on wsucougars.com
