The 8th annual Teachers Teaching Future Teachers Conference is from 8:10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the East Building at 2710 University Drive, Richland. The students are from the Kennewick, Pasco, Prosser and Richland school districts.
The conference is co-sponsored by the WSU Tri-Cities College of Education and the regional Careers In Education, a vocational advisory group and high school course.
“For students who believe they may want to pursue teaching as a career, this course provides a great opportunity to ‘experience teaching’ before pursuing the degree,” explained Molly King, the Kennewick School District’s assistant director of career and technical education. “This workshop focuses on developing teaching methodologies, leadership and team-building activities.”
The conference starts in the East Auditorium at 8:15 a.m. with the “Joe and Iggle Wiggle” ice-breaker and keynote “Monkey in the Room” presented by Mike Gaines with the City of Kennewick. The closing session at 12:45 p.m. focuses on how teachers help students with special needs, presented by Laurie Price from Richland High School.
In between, the high school students rotate among three breakout sessions that start at 9:20 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12 p.m.:
-
Math Madness (East 220)
-
Classroom management from the perspective of kindergarten teacher Denise Hogg. (East 218)
-
Teaching through music, led by Tory Christensen, a WSU alumnus who creates and performs kid-friendly music with his Wiggle Like A Fish Group (www.wigglelikeafish.com). (East 216)
The students will tour campus from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. and eat lunch in the East Commons from 11:30 to 11:55 a.m.
