Week’s events begin with livestock production overview

Five Common Reading-related events are scheduled this week, including:

Monday: “From Pen to Field to Plate: An Overview of Animal Livestock Production,” 12:10 p.m., CUE 318, Derek McLean (animal sciences).

Tuesday: “Great Grains: Benefits of Eating Whole Grains,” 5:30 p.m., Hillside Café, part of Dine with a Dietician series, Annie Roe.

Tuesday: “Abuse and Control: Our Bodies, Our Minds, and Food,” 7 pm, CUE 203, Tim Freson (health and wellness). This lecture will address the neurological and societal influences on our food decisions, including a continuum of food issues from anorexia, eating disorders and body dysmorphia to obesity.

Thursday: Careers in food safety, 5:30 p.m., Stephenson Downunder, food expert Bert Bartleson. Bartleson was involved in the 1993 Jack in the Box restaurants’ salmonella trials. After working for the Washington State Department of Health, he formed his own company, Bartleson Food Safety Consultants, Inc.

Thursday: “Hunger and Malnutrition During an Obesity Epidemic?” 5:30 p.m., Southside Café, part of Dine with a Dietitian, Annie Roe.
