PULLMAN – In an ever-changing world, WSU wants to know if its student conduct codes are still relevant and effective in dealing with student misbehavior.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 21, a random sampling of WSU students, faculty and staff will receive an online survey asking what they think about the current WSU codes.
“We are interested in people’s opinions and feedback about the conduct code so that WSU may enhance its interactions with students, faculty and external stakeholders,” said Christian Wuthrich, WSU’s associate dean of students.
A short series of questions will ask respondents to rate their familiarity and perceptions of WSU conduct code and its enforcement, the effectiveness of the appeal process, handling of off-campus incidents and sanctioning practices.
Participants selected for the survey will receive advance notice via email. A few days later, they will be emailed the link for the survey itself. It is expected to take about 10 minutes to complete.
WSU President Elson S. Floyd called for the review as WSU’s code (WAC 504-26-602) stipulates that conduct codes should be periodically assessed. According to Wuthrich, WSU has never undertaken such an extensive process to examine its code.
Once the survey data is collected, an ad-hoc committee appointed by Floyd will work with staff members in the Office of Student Conduct to examine the findings and make recommendations for improvement, if necessary.
“We want to glean points of support or confusion over the code,” said Wuthrich.
Those who complete the survey can enter a drawing for five $100 gift certificates at The Bookie. The drawing for the gift certificates will take place on Oct. 25.
