Understanding WSU’s diverse cultures and how to interact and serve together is the subject of the Global Resources Education and Training (GREAT) series sponsored by Human Resource Services that will begin Sept. 25.
There are also courses offered to prepare employees to work with domestic students who plan to study abroad.
The various courses are presented by representatives from departments and offices around campus who have cross-cultural knowledge and training expertise, as well as experience living and working overseas.
A variety of topics will be covered, including working with the Office of International Student Scholars with non-immigrant employee processes, preparing for working overseas, cross-cultural competency, academic advising for domestic students going abroad, working with non-native English speakers in the classroom, etc.
“The goal of the series is to help employees at all levels of the university develop the cross-cultural skills and service expertise that are necessary in our ever-increasing global society,” said Richard Porter, Office of International Students and Scholars director.
The series begins Sept. 25 with “Adviser’s Workshop on Education Abroad: Sharing Challenges, Finding Solutions,” presented by representatives of Education Abroad.
This training series is open to all WSU employees, and there are no session fees. However, space is limited. To view the complete schedule and enroll online, visit www.hrs.wsu.edu/GREAT.
