Clear Cut Jazz Trio to Perform Oct 1

PULMAN, Wash.—Washington State University faculty members Dave Hagelganz and Aleksander Sternfeld-Dunn, along with Lincoln Middle School band director, Joe Covill will present a concert at 8 p.m. Oct. 1 in Kimbrough Concert Hall. This concert is free and open to the public.

The trio is known as Clear Cut and its members are steeped in the jazz tradition with the desire to move forward with progressive ideas. The group’s main focus is creating a counterpoint between all three members and explores free improvisation, tempo manipulations and intentional manipulations of the groove.

Clear Cut primarily performs original works, some are written with chord changes and traditional forms while others contain melodic lines and counterpoint in which the “free” aspect can be explored.
