Plans will boost research funding, Ph.D. education

PULLMAN – New initiatives to support faculty research and funding efforts are outlined in a recent blog by Howard Grimes, vice president of research and dean of the Graduate School. Plans include:
• A unit to help faculty generate large programmatic and training grant proposals.
• Help to administer these large interdisciplinary grants.
• A spring 2010 plan to invest in Ph.D. students via tuition waivers.
• A fall 2011 initiative to use state-funded research assistantships to match and sustain the lifespan of programmatic and large training grants.
• Allocation of infrastructure funds to support strategic directions.
• Investment in a high-performance computing center.
• Continued data-management techniques that help acquire and implement large programmatic grants.
• Funding for new faculty seed grants.
