Despite a struggling economy, WSU employees showed their true colors crimson and gray — with 2,179 faculty and staff participating in the 2008-2009 employee campaign.
During that event – titled, “Imagine the Possibilities” – WSU employees not only contributed time, but gave more than $794,000 to support university scholarships, research initiatives, programming and more.

“The continued donations and participation rates show that WSU employees continue to support what matters to them most,” Jud Preece, senior associate director of Alumni Relations and a chair of the Cougar Colleagues Campaign Committee.
The top 10 supported funding areas were:
- Student Athletes
- NW Public Radio
- Donald S. and Marianna Merritt Matteson Lectureship in Chemistry
- Athletics
- Friends of Max E. Benitz Library Fund
- Lawrence R. Stark Graduate Fellowship in MASC
- Idaho Public Radio
- Engineering and Architecture Director’s Excellence Fund
- WSU Alumni Association, and
- Veterinary Medicine’s Pet Memorial Program
Over the course of the campaign, employees were encouraged to give to those things about which they are passionate. With a record-breaking participation rate of 22.8 percent, they did exactly that. WSU employees stood solid against historic budget reductions and made a strong statement of confidence in the university, its students, its alumni, and fellow colleagues.
This year’s campaign, Your Passion. Your Choice. Your Gift., will kick off soon.
