PULLMAN – Following 10 weeks of faculty-mentored research this summer, nearly 80 undergraduates from WSU and across the nation are presenting their findings to the WSU community Friday.

The poster symposium will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Smith Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE), and the public is invited.  The work of 19 chemistry graduate students will also be on display.  Undergraduates participating range from freshmen through seniors and include 20 WSU students, University of Idaho students, and others from numerous U.S. universities.

Faculty from the following departments and units hosted and sponsored the novice researchers: Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Physics, Mechanical and Materials Engineering, the Laboratory for Atmospheric Research, Chemistry, Pharmacy, the Institute for Biological Chemistry, and Molecular Biosciences.

Many of the students participated in six Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) programs that were funded with more than $400,000 by the National Science Foundation.  Additional support came from the above home departments plus the Auvil Scholars program and the Office of Undergraduate Education.  The total came to more than $450,000 spent in support of the student researchers.
