Long-time Bookie employee dies in car accident

PULLMAN — A memorial service honoring Michael A. Pritiken, a Pullman resident and previous long-time employee of WSU’s Student Book Corporation, will be held 4 p.m. Friday, July 17, at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Pritiken, 51, died 6:30 a.m. Monday morning in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 95 near Worley. Idaho State Police say Pritiken’s 1997 Honda Accord collided with a 2004 Pontiac Vibe driven by Jodi E. Skantel, 47, of Coeur d’Alene.

Pritiken was declared dead on the scene. Skantel was taken to Kootenai Medical Center with injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by state police. Both motorists were wearing seat belts.

The WSU Bookie and The Bookie Too will be closing at 3 p.m. Friday, July 17, to remember and honor a dear friend and colleague.

Pritiken was a member of the Bookie staff for nearly 20 years. He served the WSU campus in many ways over the years, most recently as the assistant textbook manager.

He completed a bachelor of arts degree in social sciences from WSU in the spring of 2008.

He left WSU May 15 to take a job with North Idaho College and was commuting from Pullman.

He is survived by his wife Patti and three children, Andrew, Tim and Molly.

A reception is scheduled to follow the memorial service at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
