The day begins at 7 a.m. with a complimentary breakfast at Cutters Café in Fairfield sponsored by the Spokane County Crop Improvement Association. Kurt Schroeder, a scientist with the USDA Agricultural Research Service, is the featured speaker and will discuss the new challenges being presented by nematodes in the area. The tour is free and open to anyone interested. Washington State pesticide credits have been requested.

Lincoln County WSU research plot tours June 18, 23, 24
Washington State University research plots at Almira, Creston and Reardan will be open for tours highlighting research and extension progress at each site. Stephen Guy, the new WSU Extension agronomist, will lead the tours.
There will be no tour at Harrington due to poor wheat emergence in the plots.
The Almira tour will begin at McKay Seed Company at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 18; a hosted barbecue will conclude the tour. From Wilbur take SR 174 northwest, turn west on Douglas Road, then north on Sorensen Road. McKay’s is a half mile further on the left. This tour will feature spring wheat and barley, plus both hard red and soft winter wheat varieties. Kim Campbell, the club wheat breeder, will discuss her research program.
The Creston tour will be on the afternoon agenda for the Northern Lincoln County Field Tour on Tuesday, June 23. The bus will leave the Wilbur Community Center at 8 a.m. Preregistration is required and available by contacting Aaron Esser at (509) 659-3210 or Aarons@wsu.edu.
The Reardan tour will start at 7 a.m., Wednesday June 24, at Hal Johnson’s farm. From SR 2, turn north on Janette Rd about three miles east of Davenport. The tour stops include winter wheat, spring wheat and spring barley variety trials. WSU barley breeder Steve Ullrich will be present to discuss his research.
