Information for employees who may be facing layoffs

Layoff timelines, bumping to another position, continuation of benefits and employee counseling were among the topics addressed at a Thursday meeting for staff who may be laid off or separated from WSU.

Human Resource Services is conducting a series of such information seminars for faculty and staff through May 27.

While the meetings are helpful, HRS staff said each employee’s situation varies and one-on-one sessions will be held with all affected employees. Employees were encouraged to access separation information on the HRS website and, if they wish, make an appointment to speak with an HRS representative at hrs@wsu.edu or 335-4521.

Scott Case, with the WSU Employee Assistance Program, explained the program was available to help employees begin to process their emotions, thoughts and behaviors.

“Research shows that supporting each other in these times is very important,” he said, adding that employees who remain after others are laid off benefit from stress management counseling too.

More information is available at the EAP website. A listing of stress management techniques can be found here. A WSU network ID login is required.
