PULLMAN —“Renewable Energy – Our Future — Wind Energy – The Pine Tree Wind Farm Development and Construction” will be the subject at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 lectured by Dan Howell, vice president of wind projects for Kiewit Power Inc.The event, sponsored by the School of Architecture and Construction Management and the Institute of Sustainable Design, (ISD) takes place in Carpenter Hall, Room 102 on the WSU Pullman campus.
Howell, a 1978 WSU Construction Management graduate, has worked for 31 years for the Kiewit Construction Group. He currently coordinates the company’s wind farm construction activities throughout North America. Construction on the Pine Tree Wind Farm, the largest city-owned wind farm in the U.S., began in January 2008. The facility is set to begin operating in the next month near Los Angeles and is expected to generate enough electricity to power 56,000 homes.
Kiewit is a 125-year-old, civil engineering contractor that provides construction services predominately in the United States and Canada. Their services include transportation, water treatment, industrial processing, power, renewable energy and mining.
The lecture is part of WSU’s Constructing America lecture series. The series, sponsored by WSU’s School of Architecture and Construction Management, was established in 2004 to provide a forum for industry leaders to present current topics that affect the built environment and project life cycle in the development, design and construction of America’s infrastructure. This lecture series’ goal is to bring together the university, the community and industry to network and open a dialogue on critical issues that affect the field of construction management and business development.
The Institute for Sustainable Design (ISD) was formed under an initial gift by the Weyerhaeuser Foundation to merge ongoing efforts at WSU to improve the environmental and social performance of our nations’ infrastructure. The Institute’s faculty and staff explore alternative building techniques and pioneer changes through strategic alliances with industry, while serving as a global technical and design resource.
