PULLMAN – The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) at Washington State University will celebrate and honor civic service during a series of events for “Be the Change” – Civic Engagement Week, April 6 – 10, including speakers Sam Reed, Secretary of State, and Thomas Goldstein, of The Washington Bus Project.
The highlight of the week includes a day of events on Wednesday, April 8, all held in the Compton Union Building Junior Ballroom.
The Civic Leadership Showcase begins at 9 a.m. This is a showcase of student posters highlighting their civic engagement and leadership experiences during the 2008-2009 academic year. Posters are on display throughout the course of the day.
A campus-community forum, Partnerships for Change, takes place 11 a.m.– 4 p.m. Lunch key-note speaker Thomas Goldstein, executive director of The Washington Bus Project – a statewide civic engagement program will address how, during difficult economic times, stakeholders can continue to serve and connect in communities. Two rounds of workshops for community partners, faculty and students follow the lunch.
The day concludes with the Cougs Care Celebration – featuring keynote speaker Secretary of State Sam Reed. We will celebrate accomplishments of student service and honor our distinguished service learning award winners, to be announced during this event from 4 – 5 p.m.

The Center for Civic Engagement promotes student learning through engagement in community service, service learning and contributing to the development of civically engaged and socially responsible graduates of Washington State University. Each year over 3,500 students get involved with the community through the CCE.
