WSU Theatre presents “The Heidi Chronicles”

An award-winning play that follows the coming of age of an art historian as she navigates a rapidly changing world over three decades will be on stage at WSU Pullman in April.

The Department of Theatre and Dance will present “The Heidi Chronicles,” directed by Terry Converse, at 7:30 p.m. April 2-4 and 9-11, with a 2 p.m. matinee on April 4, in Daggy Hall’s Jones Theatre.

Watching friends who were youthful idealists in the 1960s mature to become materialistic consumers in the 1980s, Heidi (played by Elinor Gunn) distances herself, even as her own path leads to an affair with arrogant lawyer/publisher Scoop Rosenbaum (played by Morgan Law) and then into a deeply troubled relationship with the charming and witty young pediatrician Peter Patrone (played by Zachary Magan), who turns out to be gay.

Disillusioned and feeling stranded by her friends, Heidi’s ray of hope is for her adopted daughter and future generations of women to develop a stronger sense of self in a less sexist society.

According to Jan Balakian in her book “The Heidi Chronicles: The Big Chill of Feminism,” the play grew out of Wasserstein’s own strong feminist sentiments.

Tickets are available at the Daggy Hall box office 2-5:20 p.m. Tuesday-Friday the week of the play and beginning one hour prior to the 7:30 p.m. curtain.

General admission tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $7 for children and WSU students with ID. WSU graduate/professional students and their partners are admitted free of charge with valid ID. Group rates are available.

Call 335-7236 for reservations or e-mail reservations@wsu.edu.

WSU theater is sponsored by the WSU Visual, Performing and Literary Arts Committee and the Graduate and Professional Student Association.
