PULLMAN, Wash. Washington State University will continue to conduct outreach events called, “Imagine U @ WSU” at selected high schools this spring. The events will be held at Wenatchee High School on March 19, and Bridgeport and Othello high schools on March 20.
“Imagine U @ WSU” provides an opportunity for middle and high school students to get a taste of what college is like and learn how to prepare for the future as a college student.
Laurie Neal, GEAR UP/AVID Site Coordinator at Wenatchee High School said, “Imagine U @ WSU offers an opportunity for our students to vision a future for themselves beyond high school graduation. It enables us to bring the message of postsecondary education to a broader audience, many of whom are unable to visit colleges on their own. I believe Imagine U events help students make connections of relevance to their current studies at the high school level.”
The event includes presentations by WSU faculty, staff, alumni, and students in the form of hands-on instruction, discussions on fields of research, and presentations on what it takes to go to college. Presenters will come from very different fields, including accounting, chemistry, communication, computer science, criminal justice, entomology, food science, horticulture, crop & soil sciences, nursing, and pharmacy, to name a few.
In the evening, a “Family Night” will be held to provide information on what parents can do to achieve their dream for their students, how to work as a team to achieve their educational goals, and to provide information about admission procedures, financial aid, and support programs. Also, WSU students from the community will share experiences that helped them achieve their educational dreams.
“I am particularly grateful for the willingness of WSU to provide its resources to send the message to students that regardless of their educational choice, post secondary education in some form will provide more options for future success in personal career choices,” said Neal.
