PULLMAN Gail J. Stearns, director of The Common Ministry at WSU, will lead two stress relief workshops teaching techniques for finding sanity and peace in the midst of stress. Drawing on mindfulness, stress-relief, and spiritual sources, attendees will learn how to actively participate in the present moment and find calm.
The workshops will be offered noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the Smith Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE) 512, and 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, in CUE 518. Both sessions are free for community members as well as WSU employees and registration is not required.
“In my own life, putting into practice research on waking up and becoming aware of the present is the most authentic way I have found to deal with grief and stress. We already have the capacity built into us as humans to experience peace – we just haven’t been taught how to access it,” said Stearns, who for the past ten years, has been researching and practicing mindfulness and spiritual centering as stress relief techniques for daily life.
The workshops are sponsored by The Common Ministry at WSU along with Health and Wellness Services and Counseling and Testing Services. For more information, contact Gail Stearns at 509-332-2611 or gailstearns@commonministry.com.
