WSU libraries partners with BioMed Central

The WSU Libraries has become a Supporter Member of the Open Access Publisher BioMed Central. This membership allows researchers from WSU to publish articles that have been accepted by BioMed Central journals, and those of their fledgling sites Chemistry Central and PhysMath Central, at a 15% discount off the Article processing fees.

WSU libraries, like academic libraries in many countries, have been forced to cancel access to journals for several decades due to the ‘Serials Crisis’ in which subscription prices consistently increase for most scholarly journals and journal packages at rates significantly above the consumer price index. This BioMed Central membership is a new financial model to access and distribute the world’s research literature.

The WSU Libraries have selected BioMed Central to support at this time because it is a leading Open Access Publisher that has an increasing number of high impact journals. WSU researchers have also been publishing regularly with BioMed Central. Recent articles by WSU researchers are prominently listed on the WSU page of the BioMed Central website.

For questions about other open access issues, changes in scholarly communication strategies, or suggestions for specific journals for your subject discipline, please contact Joel Cummings (jcummings@wsu.edu) or Kay Vyhnanek (kayv@wsu.edu) or your department’s liaison librarian.
