Tickets on sale for 7th annual benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues”

PULLMAN – The 2009 WSU benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues” is nearly here. Tickets for the benefit production will go on sale Feb. 2. They will be sold in the main lobby of the Compton Union Building. Hours of ticket sales are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the price is $8 a ticket, or $10 if purchased at the door.

V-DAY WSU, a registered student organization, puts on the WSU benefit productions of “The Vagina Monologues” every spring. Productions of the award-winning play will take place at 7:30 p.m. February 12, 13, and 14. The play will be featured in Jones Theatre, in Daggy Hall.

People can also look forward to more Vagina chocolates, which will be available to purchase at the ticket sales counter. Large chocolates will cost $3 and chocolate suckers will cost $1.

V-DAY WSU, which is part of a larger, international organization called VDAY, is participating in the college campaign to raise money for local and international groups who work to stop violence against women and girls.

In the six years of producing the play, V-DAY WSU has been able to raise nearly $40,000. Most of this money has been donated to local agencies that work directly with women who have experienced sexual violence. V-DAY WSU will donate the profits from the 2009 benefit production to Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse and to the VDAY Spotlight, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Monologues veteran, Jordan Hightower, loves being a part of the V-DAY WSU family and is excited to be a part of this year’s productions. “I have been involved in this amazing production for the last four years, and I feel like every opportunity I have to stand up on stage and share someone’s story is an opportunity I have to make a difference in someone’s life in the audience. Someone who might have gone through what I am talking about or who knows someone who has,” Hightower said.

“The monologues only happen once a year, and every year is different,” director Brenna Fullner said. “You will really miss out on a spectacular event if you don’t attend. Plus, its Valentines weekend, and what is better on Valentines than going to a show?”
