Accomplished pianist to perform

PULLMAN — Pianist William Doppmann will offer a guest concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, in Kimbrough Concert Hall on the WSU campus. Admission is free.

Doppmann will be performing pieces by Haydn, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Scarlatti and Scriabin, as well as one of his own compositions.

Doppmann, who served as artistic director of the Chamber Music at Port Townsend for 25 years, made his solo debut at the age of 10 in New York City. Since then, he has played in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America and the Far East in recitalist and as soloist with major orchestras, including the Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, Detroit, Seattle and Tokyo Symphonies.

In 1980, Doppmann was the first composer to be awarded a Performing Arts Grant by the Washington State Arts Commission. Over the years, he had a number of new works performed and received several competitive grants and awards, including the University of Michigan’s distinguished Alumni Citation of Merit. He has been an annual recipient of ASCAP Awards since 1993.
