Re-accreditation visit April 1-3


Final self-study goes to regents Jan. 30

 

 
PULLMAN – Re-accreditation work is wrapping up as WSU prepares for the April 1-3 visit of a team from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The goal of the visit is to demonstrate both that WSU meets accreditation standards and its effectiveness in supporting and fulfilling its mission.
 
The self-study, the most significant part of the accreditation process, is in the final stages of review and will be submitted to the Board of Regents for approval at its Jan. 30 meeting. The study then will be posted to the accreditation website, ONLINE @ http://accreditation.wsu.edu, which will go live on Jan. 30.
 
The WSU community may submit comments directly to the NWCCU by March 1 about the university’s qualifications for re-accreditation. Comments must be in writing and signed. Mail them to NWCCU, 8060 165th Ave. NE, Suite 100, Redmond, WA 98052.
 
WSU was last re-accredited by NWCCU in 1999, and that status was reaffirmed by the commission on the basis of in an interim report in 2004.
 
Approximately 200 people — committee members, deans and chairs — have been involved in the re-accreditation self-study process since fall 2006. Following self-studies by each academic unit and college, a universitywide draft self-study was made available for feedback and comment this fall. With those recommendations incorporated, the final self-study will go before the regents at the end of this month.
 
The goal of the self-study was to:
 
• evaluate the university against a set of standards that have been developed and revised over time by NWCCU members;
 
• encourage institutional improvement;
 
• assess WSU’s effectiveness and impact in meeting goals for educating undergraduate and graduate/professional students, conducting scholarship and research, and providing service/outreach.
 
WSU was a founding member of NWCCU’s predecessor agency and was first accredited in 1918.
