Renowned journalist Andrew Schneider will address the news media’s role in environmental issues and public health in a free public talk at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, in Todd auditorium. A reception will follow.
Schneider is the senior national correspondent for investigations at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper, and has had a distinguished career at the Baltimore Sun, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Newsweek. He has twice won the Pulitzer Prize and also has won other journalism awards.
Schneider’s stories have explained complex issues involving government and corporate cover-ups of actions that have killed workers, harmed the public or damaged the environment. His 2004 detailed expose of the asbestos industry (An Air That Kills: How the Asbestos Poisoning of Libby, Montana, Uncovered a National Scandal, cowritten
with David McCumber) has been cited as one of the most important works of environmental journalism in years.

Recently Schneider has investigated varied subjects, including tainted honey imported from China. He is dedicated to exposing and explaining environmental and health threats that affect all Americans.
Schneider’s visit to campus is being sponsored by the Center for Environmental Education, Research and Outreach (CEREO).
