VANCOUVER – The paintings of local artist Wayne Herndon will be on display in the Engineering Life Sciences Building gallery from Jan.12 to March 13.
The bright colors and narrative aspect of Herndon’s artwork give it a storybook feel as if he were illustrating a modern fairytale or fable.
Herndon spent many years of his early artistic career designing and crafting stained glass. His glass designs can be found in many southern churches and private residences from Texas to the East Coast. His use of color and attention to detail in his paintings may be a reflection of his experience working with glass.
Herndon describes his work as “a visual form of jazz and a reaction to the conflicts which exist between social structures and personal impulses.” He explores those conflicts with a touch of humor and illustrates them with a great deal of beauty.
Entry to campus exhibits is free. WSU Vancouver galleries are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
