PULLMAN – The University Budget Committee held its third meeting Monday, Dec. 29, as it continued to gather facts and discuss suggestions regarding WSU’s budget situation.
“Right now the committee is very much in the information-gathering mode,” said Warwick Bayly, university provost and executive vice president and committee co-chair. “We are learning about both the size of the budget issues facing us and about the great diversity of the university’s programs and operations statewide.”
Bayly said all university vice presidents will be asked to prioritize programs within their areas with an eye toward possible budget reductions.
Meanwhile, the budget committee’s website has received nearly 200 suggestions regarding potential budget savings. The committee has asked the university’s budget office to begin quantifying how much might be saved from implementing some of the ideas that have been submitted.
Bayly said the suggestions from the university community have been most valuable to the committee and he encouraged continued input.
The committee plans to meet again next week.
