Dining Services donates over 6,000 yogurt lids

PULLMAN  – Over the past few months, Dining Services has collected 6,075 Yoplait Yogurt Lids to mail to Yoplait Headquarters as part of this year’s “Save Lids to Save Lives” campaign.

Northside Café, Southside Café, and Hillside Café participated in collecting the lids.  Each Café washed the lids and sent them to Jean Arnhold, Office Assistant at the Northside Café, who sent them for donation this week.

Yoplait donates $0.10 for every pink lid collected to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. Yoplait will donate up to $1.5 million, with a guaranteed donation of $500,000.

The donation to the Susan G. Komen foundation is credited to the zip code the lids are mailed from.  Up to 75 percent of the net income received from the donation stays in our local community to fund breast health education efforts, breast cancer screenings, and treatment projects.  A minimum of 25 percent of the net income supports the Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Program to fund breast cancer research, awards, and educational scientific programs worldwide.

Last year, Dining Services collected 3,651 pink yogurt lids for donation.  Dining Services has taken part in the campaign for eleven years and would like to thank all who contributed.  Yoplait is still accepting donations for pink lids postmarked on or before Dec.  31, 2008.
