PULLMAN, Wash.The Washington State University Foundation honored Barry Jones as the 2008 Weldon B. Gibson Distinguished Volunteer Award recipient, presented at the WSU Foundation’s 29th Annual Recognition Dinner Gala in Pullman in October.
“Whether it’s his work in the context of the WSU Alumni Association or as a WSU Foundation Trustee, Barry has made an indelible imprint and we have benefited tremendously from his work, engagement, commitment, and dedication,” said WSU President Elson S. Floyd.
As benefactors of WSU, Jones (’55 Bus. Admin) and his wife, Carole (’55 Home Ec.), have directed gifts to WSU for more than 40 years while receiving a number of notable honors along with way. Prior to becoming a member of the WSU Foundation Board of Trustees in 1979, Jones served as president of the WSU Alumni Association in 1968. He also received the Alumni Achievement Award in 1974, and was named WSU Co-Dad of the Year in 1978. In 1991, Barry and Carole were presented the WSU Foundation’s Outstanding Service Award.
Established in 1981 and named for the WSU Foundation’s foundation chairman, the Weldon B. “Hoot” Gibson Distinguished Volunteer Award, is the highest honor bestowed by the WSU Foundation and recognize individuals for remarkable service to the WSU Foundation and Washington State University.
Barry and his wife Carole reside in Spokane where Barry is a retired Chairman and Owner of Fidelity Associates Insurance and Financial Services. Their family includes five generations of student at WSU, including their three sons. Two of their grandchildren are currently students at WSU.
