VANCOUVER, Wash. Selected cast bronze sculptural works from artist and sculptor Ross Brown will be on display through January in the library at Washington State University Vancouver. Brown has been active in exhibiting his artwork both regionally and nationally.
Brown’s bronze casting has been at the core of his work for 30 years. He creates his sculptures in his own foundry. He also works with terrazzo, a material traditionally used in architecture to do floors. He believes that “all materials have a natural accruing esthetic which can be exploited or promoted. “
Brown creates his pieces with a bit of dark humor. Brown’s current body of work, “Corporatocracy,” is a loosely based expression that examines government dominated by corporate influence. His work is also based on the idea of “Future Primitive” a story of a history that has not yet been fully realized. Many of Brown’s pieces are masks and objects that look like artifacts from some unknown culture.
Brown is also the owner and operator of Roknob design (https://www.Roknob.com), which specializes in the manufacture of custom designed, one of a kind or limited edition door knobs, cabinet handles and pulls.
Brown holds Master of Fine Arts degrees from the University of Oregon and the University of Washington. He has taught art at a number of schools and colleges in the Northwest including the Pratt Fine Arts Center and Bellevue Community College.
