Enjoy the Islands with Food, Performances During WSU’s Dad’s Weekend

PULLMAN, Wash.—Washington State University Pacific Islanders Club presents the 7th Annual Dad’s Weekend Pacific Islands Cultural Exhibition “The Islands Through Our Eyes.” The event will start at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the Compton Union Building Senior Ballroom. Doors will open at 5 p.m.

The event will feature Alex Tan, WSU Diversity and Faculty Fellow, as guest speaker and will include Pacific Island food, dance and other performances presented by the Pacific Islanders Club, Hui Hau’oli ‘O Hawai’i, Buhay Dance Troupe and Japan Club.

The event, formerly known as the Dad’s Weekend Luau, is an exciting treat for the senses and a window into some of the many rich and diverse cultures of Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia.

“We decided to change the name from ‘Dad’s Weekend Luau’ to ‘Pacific Islands Cultural Exhibition’ because there are so many different groups represented.  Luau did not give a good idea of the richness and the different cultures involved in the event,” said George Castro, the group’s advisor.

Tickets are on sale at the CUB Lair, Mon. – Fri. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are $18 or $25 at the door.
