Small Fire Forces CUB Evacuation

PULLMAN, Wash. – A small kitchen fire forced evacuation of the Compton Union Building for a short time Thursday afternoon.

The fire at the Panda Express was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. No injuries resulted. The alarm summoning the Pullman Fire Department sounded at 3:15 p.m. The building was re-occupied by 4 p.m., according to Sean Greene, CUB director. He said the evacuation of the building went smoothly.

Damage from the incident was minimal. A few textbooks in the Bookie, located below the dining area, sustained water damage.

The CUB restaurants, with exception of the Panda Express, were back operating shortly after the building reopened. The Panda Express was slated to open shortly thereafter.

Rod Holmes, campus fire marshal, said restaurant workers would be provided with additional training in use of extinguishers to minimize the possibility of fires in the area.
