VANCOUVER – The bachelor of science programs in mechanical engineering and computer science at WSU Vancouver recently received accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
The recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology, is a federation of 29 professional and technical societies representing these fields.
“This is like a seal of approval for quality,” said Hakan Gurocak, director of the WSU Vancouver School of Engineering and Computer Science. “In effect, it shows that we have truly high quality programs preparing our graduates to enter these professions right away. The quality standards are set by the professions through their participation in ABET. Anyone in industry now knows with certainty that they can hire our graduates with confidence. ”
ABET accreditation is also important for WSU Vancouver alumni applying to graduate programs or taking professional credentialing exams, Gurocak said. The ABET accreditation applies retroactively to students who entered the WSU Vancouver mechanical engineering or computer science bachelor of science programs, which began in 2004.
