Retired astronaut and WSU alumnus John Fabian and Russian cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov will give a free public lecture at 4 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 17, in Todd auditorium. They will also visit with science and engineering classes and NASA scholarship and fellowship recipients as part of a community day during the annual congress of the Association of Space Explorers.
The association is a nonprofit educational organization that includes about 300 astronauts and cosmonauts from around the world. The congress is being held in the United States (Seattle) for only the third time since 1985.
Fabian, who grew up in Pullman, was a mission specialist on two NASA missions. He received the WSU Regent’s Distinguished Alumnus Award, the highest award granted to WSU alumni, in 1983 and served as a WSU regent 2004-2005.
Vinogradov lived on the MIR space station August 1997-February 1998 and later spent six months on the International Space Station.
