PULLMAN – Workers at Martin Stadium silhouetted against the sun last week as they work to replace the football scoreboard with a state-of-the-art video, scoring and sound system.
Technically speaking, the scoreboard features Daktronics light emitting diode (LED) video technology with the capabilities to present live and recorded video images, animation and graphics.
The video display measures 53 feet wide X 25 feet high, more than double the size of the past video board.
“This is a tremendous addition to Martin Stadium and something our fans are really going to enjoy,” said WSU Director of Athletics Jim Sterk. “The new video board will rival anything in the Pac-10 and along with the Phase I and II renovations to Martin Stadium, Cougar fans will have a heightened gameday experience.”
Above the video display will be a LED scoreboard with showing score, possession, down, yards to go, ball on, quarter and timeouts left.
An integrated digital speaker system will provide the clearest possible sound projection.
The entire video, scoring and sound display will be 53 feet wide X 41 feet high.
The new scoreboard will be operational in time for WSU’s Sept. 6 game against California.
WSU opens its 2008 season against Oklahoma State at the Cougar Gridiron Classic, Aug. 30, at Qwest Field in Seattle.
