Marquart named new dir. of development

Justin Marquart

PULLMAN, Wash. – WSU recently announced that Justin Marquart has been promoted to director of development for the College of Business. In his new position, Marquart will oversee all of the college’s fundraising, external relations and events.

Marquart joined the CB’s development team in 2006 as the assistant director of development focusing on funding priorities for the college’s marketing department and the School of Hospitality Business Management. During this time he led fundraising efforts for the college’s new Center for Behavioral Business Research, with renovations set to begin in January 2009. Prior to working with the CB, he had successful ten-year career with Intel where his responsibilities included world-wide strategic services management and product management, overseeing the readiness and launch of some of Intel’s biggest consumer products.

Marquart will succeed Rueben Mayes
(’92 Liberal Arts, ’00 MBA) as the development lead. Mayes, who has led the college’s development activities since June 2005, has accepted a leadership development position with Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Ore.

“Rueben has been a strong leader for the college’s fundraising activities and has worked to build a strong team during his time here,” said CB Dean Eric Spangenberg. “He has been an integral part of the college, the university and the Pullman community over the past few years. He will truly be missed, but we wish him all the best as he and his family make this transition. Importantly, Rueben is leaving the CB development operation in good order with a strong successor in Justin.  I am confident we will continue successfully in this domain moving forward with Justin’s leadership.”

“Rueben set a solid foundation for the College of Business over the years and has been a great leader and mentor to me. I am honored to have been chosen to lead our team as we work with Dean Spangenberg on furthering the college’s vision,” said Marquart. “Rueben has set a strong direction for our team and I am confident we will continue to be successful moving forward.”

Marquart is a CB alumnus, having earned his bachelor’s in business administration, majoring in marketing, in 1995 and his master’s of business administration in 1996. He is a four-year letter winner for WSU’s baseball team (1991-1995) and was on the All Pac-10 Academic Team for baseball in 1993. Additionally, Marquart is a member of the 1909 Society at Emanuel Children’s Hospital in Portland, Ore., and is the president of Caddies4Cure (http://www.caddies4cure.com). He lives in Pullman with his wife, Lisa (’95 BA; ’98 MA Elementary and Secondary Education), and their three boys.
