PULLMAN — A WSU female student in her mid 20s was injured this morning as she and a friend jumped from a second-floor window as a fully involved fire raced through an eight-unit apartment complex in Pullman’s north area, according to the Pullman Fire Department.

Pullman Regional Hospital reported that the woman had fractured her pelvis and was being transported to Spokane.

Pullman firefighters were called just before 7 a.m. to the Clarke Terrace apartment complex, 150 NE Terre View Dr., for a report of a fully involved structure fire.  As firefighters left Station 2, only a few blocks away from the apartments, they immediately called in a second alarm since they could see the black smoke from the apartment.

As firefighters arrived, they immediately put a water/foam mix on the top of the fire, until the pumper-ladder could arrive and work the fire on the second floor. They managed to keep the fire contained to four of the eight apartments in the complex.

Shortly after the firefighters arrived, the woman, who lived on the second floor, jumped about 10-12 feet to the ground and was injured.  A male friend also jumped carrying a pet rabbit.  Firefighters say both the man and the pet were uninjured.

Pullman firefighters were aided by crews from Whitman County Rural District 12.  The fire was reported under control about an hour later.

Fire department officials are investigating the cause of the fire and the extent of the damages.
