PULLMAN WSU’s Division of Student Affairs, Equity and Diversity is undergoing reorganization with the goal of creating more synergy between its units and others across campus.
Leaders within the Division met last week to finalize plans that will cluster units around four distinct priority areasstudent achievement, equity and diversity, student life and development, and the Dean of Students Office.
“This reorganization aligns our units in such a way that more synergy is created resulting in higher quality programs for students, faculty and staff,” said Michael J. Tate, vice president for the Division of Student Affairs, Equity and Diversity. “It also provides a structure that increases our accountability.”
With approximately 30 different units within the Division spread all over campus, Tate said they will benefit by being grouped thoughtfully under a designated leader. Units such as Campus Involvement, the Center for Civic Engagement, the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life, and Residence Life are among those that will form the Department of Student Life and Development led by Milton Lang, senior associate vice president for the Division of Student Affairs, Equity and Diversity.
Tate said the units within the offices will be expected to increase collaboration and work together towards common goals. “What we have is a new structure that encourages better communication between like-units,” said Tate. “But we also seek horizontal collaboration between the four areas and with other important constituents such as WSU faculty.”
