Student advising, learning hires Hones

WSU has named Sarah Ann Hones as the new director of the Student Advising and Learning Center. Her appointment began April 1.

Hones worked previously as director of the ACCESS Center at Southern Oregon University in Ashland.  There she supervised academic advising, disabilities services, TRiO Student Support Services, veteran’s services and the writing and math tutoring centers. She earned her master’s degree in Education at Oregon State University.

According to Susan Poch, associate vice president for educational development, the search committee was impressed with Hones’ national reputation — particularly through her leadership roles with the National Academic Advising Association.

“Sarah Ann’s passion for academic advising is evident with her strong connections with the National Academic Advising Association and in her work with faculty and staff in academic advising,” said Poch.  “She is committed to promoting student success through access, program planning and assessment.”

Her general responsibilities include oversight of academic advising, reinstatement, and peer tutoring.  Additionally, Hones will participate in campuswide committees that support academic success for students. The Student Advising and Learning Center is located in Lighty Student Services Building 260.
