Wellbeing fair part of campus challenge

Yesterday was the seventh anniversary of the University Recreation Center’s All Campus Challenge, which is URec’s way of celebrating National Recreation Sports and Fitness Day as well as the anniversary of the Student Recreation Center.
In 1997, students passed the recreation center referendum; in 2001, the front doors opened to serve WSU and the community.

To celebrate the day, the WSU and surrounding community were invited to learn more about healthy living at the wellbeing fair, 4-7 p.m. yesterday.

Prizes and giveaways were handed out throughout the day.

National Fitness Day began on Feb. 22, 1950, when representatives of 11 historically black colleges met at Dillard University in New Orleans to form the National Intramural Association (NIA), which has since become the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). To celebrate this historic day and the benefit of participation in recreational sports, NIRSA proclaimed Feb. 22 National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day in 1999.
